The Bis, Hartlepool;A vibrant flexible workspace providing studios and offices for established and new business start-ups through the refurbishment and extension of the Grade II listed former General Post Office Building on Whitby Street in Hartlepool.

The project is a key component of the Innovation and Skills Quarter regeneration plan which has started to develop a thriving creative industries cluster centred around the Church Street Conservation Area. The project has proved a successful catalyst for new investment and demand within the area.

The judges said;
“The BIS is a vibrant space, converted from a Grade II post office. The building has been open almost a year and is extremely popular, filled with creative businesses from fashion design to animation. The facility has continued to bolster the regeneration of the Church Street area and is a perfect landing space for new businesses coming out of the nearby Northern School of Art.”The project demonstrates group gingers skills at tackling the difficult redundant heritage structures, bringing them back to life through practical and deliverable interventions with a focus on activity and social interaction.
